Maurice is pleased to present, OLD NEW WINDSOR, an assembly of recent and past works of art. In keeping with the spirit of Maurice, real and fictional friends come together in an outdoor exhibition celebrating the levity of summertime splendors.
The site of this exhibition takes place on the former lot of Margaret's Service Station on the fringes of pastoral New Windsor, Maryland. Now a residence, the lot encompasses a half-acre surrounded by farmland located three miles from Main St.
Originally surveyed into lots in 1797 by Isaac Atlee hoping to capitalize on traffic coming to and from Winchester, VA and Philadelphia, PA on a spur that fed the old Monocacy Road, a wagon trail situated several miles north of town. New Windsor also boasts the former residency of first generation Abstract Expressionist painter, Clyfford Still, who lived with his wife at 312 Church Street until his death in 1980.
This exhibition is a meditation on the passage of time, deconstructing the perception of the neoteric and concepts surrounding relevancy by colliding visual manifestations of the past with the present.
Maurice is an artist-run collective and curatorial effort that continues to pop up sporadically in various forms, iterations, and manifestations, focusing on experimental modes of multi-disciplinary visual expression.
